THE CLASHING SOCIETIES OF DARWINIA

The Clashing Societies of Darwinia is a board game that was inspired by the concept of Social Darwinism; which, in short, is applying the idea of “survival of the fittest” to human society. It’s been debunked as a theory over all, but it lent itself nicely to creating a strategy game.

In the game, each player takes control of a society that resides in the fictional world of Darwinia. The ultimate goal is to eliminate all the other societies, leaving your society as the last one standing. In order to do this, each player must work their way up through the development levels by drawing strength and intelligence attribute cards. The higher a player’s development level is, the more access they have to powerful resources. I really wanted to create a fun twist on the idea of "survival of the fittest" because it's not all about strength, you have to build up your society's intelligence as well if you want to be successful. If you want an in depth look at how the game is played, I have attached the Instructions, just click the link below!

It's a quick and interesting game, with 8 different societies, all with unique color schemes and names that coincide with it's location in Darwinia. I wanted to keep the rest of the designs in grey scale so that the color schemes of each individual society could really pop. I think adding charming illustrations that are quick to read and keeping the information on the cards more streamlined helps add to the movement of the game. Also, even though the rules may seem somewhat complex for children, I wanted it to have a style that could appeal to a wide age range.

The game box was made from cardboard and foam board, and then wrapped in paper that had been printed with my design. The cards were printed on card stock and the game boards were printed on foam core.
