DINING & SUMMER CONFERENCES

Working as a graphic designer for Dining & Summer Conferences (DSC) was such an incredible opportunity. DSC had about 6 different dining locations on campus that we were in charge of designing for, not to mention designing for the administration and catering departments as well. So, being one of only two designers working for them meant having to be able to adapt to the large variety amongst the projects that we were given. Not only did these projects often vary in style, but they were always changing in form as well. One day I might have been working on some coffee labels for one of the cafes, and the next day I could have been working on the branding for an event we were hosting, or creating content for the social media pages.

That job also taught me quite a bit about being self reliant and taking on multiple responsibilities. Most of the briefs for the work that I created were often initially given to me with few specifications or context, so being able to work through these problems in a timely manner was important. It was not uncommon for me to have to run around trying to get answers, but it taught me how to communicate with my coworkers so much better. During my second year with the company, I worked as the senior designer, which allowed me to experience mentoring another designer and collaborating with them on large scale projects.
